How  Is Implemented?

Teeth whitening application is divided into two as home type teeth whitening and office type teeth whitening. If it is decided to use home-type teeth whitening after the examination, the measurements of the teeth are taken, and thin, transparent and completely enveloping plaques are prepared in the laboratory according to these measurements. The patient applies the appropriate amount of gel to these plaques as told by the physician, and the plaque is placed on the teeth. In order for the whitening gel not to damage the gums, the overflowing part of the plaque is wiped with a damp cotton pad. Standby time is about 5-7 hours. The number of applications depends on the recommendation of the physician, regular use during this period is very important to get maximum results from the treatment.

Office type bleaching is a bleaching method applied in the clinic by the physician. It is the most preferred whitening among teeth whitening applications. After the teeth are dried, a protective gel is applied to the gums so that the whitening agent does not damage them and they are frozen with the help of light. Then the whitening gel is applied to the front surfaces of the teeth. It takes about 20-40 minutes. During this time, the teeth are exposed to a blue light. A laser can also be used as a light source. Depending on the desired whiteness, the session can be repeated several times. Food and beverages containing dyestuffs should not be consumed for 48 hours after bleaching. During this period, the bleaching process continues, and the consumed coloring foods can negatively affect this process.

If there are conditions such as calculus or gingival bleeding before teeth whitening, tartar cleaning should be done before the procedure.

The whitening process can be applied to all patients who have completed their tooth development.

Does Teeth Whitening Process Damage Teeth?

All whitening agents used in the clinic in the teeth whitening process consist of chemicals that are composed of superoxide components and that break the chemical bonds between tooth enamel and coloring foods and restore the old color of the tooth. The whitening agents given and applied by the physician do not contain chemicals that will harm the dental tissue such as abrasives. In the detailed examination performed by the physician, it is evaluated whether the patient is suitable for the bleaching process. In the presence of conditions such as caries and gum disease that are not suitable for bleaching, bleaching is not performed. For this reason, the whitening process applied in the clinic does not harm the teeth. Home bleaching methods without physician control can be extremely harmful. Teeth whitening should be done under the supervision of a physician.
